KENNEWICK, Wash. – Marty Lusby, a dedicated caregiver from the Tri-Cities, has been nominated for the Visiting Angels National Caregiver of the Year award.

Lusby has been a caregiver her entire life, starting at the age of eight when she cared for her grandparents. “I’ve been caregiving my whole life,” she said. “I took care of my grandparents when they were older.”

At the event, Lusby shared her passion for caregiving. “You have to have a big heart to be a caregiver,” she said. “It’s great because I get to bring happiness.”

Lusby spoke about the connections she forms with her clients, emphasizing the importance of listening. “We do a lot of listening. You find out a lot of things about people,” she stated. “They needed to say that before the end of their life a lot of times.”

When asked about facing life’s challenges, Lusby described her motivation as simple love. “Do you call it courage? I call it love,” she said. “When you love someone, you just take care of them.”

Lusby was selected from more than 600 caregivers across the country. As part of her recognition, she received a $5,000 award.
