Last survivor of USS Arizona dead at 102

HONOLULU, HI.-The last living survivor of the USS Arizona battleship sunk at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941 has died.

Lou Conter was 102 when he died at his home in California on April 1 of congestive heart failure, his daughter confirmed to NBC News.

Conter served as a quartermaster and was standing on deck of the USS Arizona when the Japanese attack began at 7:55 a.m.

Those on board the USS Arizona accounted for almost half of those killed in the attack. According to NBC News, 1,177 sailors and Marines lost their lives on the Arizona during the attack.
