Kamiakin High School student arrested with two guns in backpack

KENNEWICK, Wash. – A student at Kamiakin High School (KaHS) was arrested Tuesday afternoon for bringing two loaded handguns to school in his backpack according to the Kennewick Police Department.

KPD says KaHS security and KPD’s School Resource Officer (SRO) were notified at around 1:55 p.m. about a 14-year-old male student with a gun.

The student was contacted and safely brought him out of a classroom to search his backpack where two loaded handguns were found.

KPD says the 14-year-old was arrested and will be booked into the Benton-Franklin Juvenile Justice Center for possessing the weapons and possessing weapons on school grounds.

KPD reminds students to report threats like weapons to a trusted adult so the situation can be investigated and addressed safely.
