WALLA WALLA, Wash.-Walla Walla High School has named its new head football coach from the three finalists announced earlier in February.

Justin James will lead the Blue Devils when they take the field in 2024.

“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to be the Head Coach of my alma mater,” said James who grew up in Walla Walla and played football, basketball and baseball for the Blue Devils.

James, a 5th grade teacher at Sharpstein Elementary and has coached at WA-HI in a variety of roles since 2009, including head coach of the freshman team last season, according to a Walla Walla School District press release on his hire.

“The experiences I had and the lessons I learned as a player in this football program helped shape me into the person that I am today,” James said. “I’m a better coach, teacher, father, and husband because of what I learned through football.”

Strength and conditioning, interpersonal relationships and increased participation are some of James’ top priorities as he takes over the football program, according to the WWSD’s press release.

“I will work tirelessly and devote myself to rebuilding every aspect of this program into something that our community can rally around because they will recognize the discipline, dedication, and determination we display on and off the field,” said James.
