The YVSIU was notified of the death of an adult male at the jail on the morning of Friday, Nov. 24.

According to Yakima County Coroner Jim Curtice, the man who died was 41-year-old Hien Trung Hua.

Hua suffered a medical emergency while “in contact” with a Corrections Officer at the jail, according to the YVSIU. He was pronounced dead at the scene and the circumstances of the death are now under investigation.

Hua was charged with fourth-degree assault at the time of his death, according to court records. He had a prior conviction for third-degree assault in 2005.
