Hermiston School District launches canned food drive

HERMISTON, Ore.- The Hermiston School District is collecting food to donate to the Christmas Express program, which is in its 55th year.

HSD is working with the Hermiston Police Department gathering non-perishable canned or dry food to give back to the community. Food baskets will be prepared full of a turkey or ham, potatoes and canned vegetables and fruits. Those baskets will go to families in need within the community.

“I am continually impressed by the involvement of our students in a canned food drive to benefit our community,” said Superintendent Dr. Tricia Mooney. “This event is not just about the number of cans raised. It is about cultivating a culture of caring and instilling in our students the value of empathy and the power of coming together for a common cause. This is one more reminder that even small acts of kindness can leave an enduring impact on our community.”

Donations can be dropped off at schools in the district or at HPD. Items that don’t go into the baskets will be directed to the Agape House to assist more families.
