KENNEWICK, Wash.-A Franklin County woman has died of the flu, the first influenza-related death in Washington state this flu season according to the Benton Franklin Health District.
“This is a somber reminder that influenza is a dangerous virus, and we cannot stress enough the importance of vaccinations,” said Benton-Franklin Health District’s Deputy to the Health Officer and Public Health Nurse Heather Hill.
According to the BFHD, the death of the woman in her 70’s, is a good reminder of both the upcoming flu season and the importance of vaccinations.
The CDC recommends that everyone ages six months and older, including pregnant and nursing people, should get the flu vaccine every year.
With several respiratory illnesses likely to be circulating this winter, including COVID and the flu, the BFHD recommends vaccinations and taking extra precautions this Holiday season.
Flu symptoms can come on suddenly and can result in death in some cases, some common flu symptoms include:
Fever or chills.Cough.Sore throat.Runny nose.Muscle or body aches.Headache.Fatigue.Vomiting or diarrhea.
