
KENNEWICK, Wash. – On Flag Day, June 14, the Tri-Cities community is invited to a special event at Columbia Park for the retirement of worn or damaged U.S. flags.
American Legion Post 34, in collaboration with the Port of Kennewick, City of Kennewick, Kennewick High School Jr. ROTC Color Guard, Kennewick Police Department and Kennewick Fire Department, is organizing the ceremony, the Port of Kennewick said in a release.
The American Legion will discuss the significance of the American flag and its traditions. Port of Kennewick Commission President Skip Novakovich will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
The event will include a dignified disposal of colors by burning 13 U.S. flags. Additional flags donated for retirement will be disposed off site.
The ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Regional Veterans Memorial in Columbia Park. It is free and open to the public.
