An excited puppy had to be rescued by firefighters after she got her head stuck – in a metal railing.

Hilarious photos show how the 10-week-old German Shepherd, named Wednesday, became trapped inside a circular part of the ornate fencing.

Her worried owner brought the stricken pooch to South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue’s Dearne station, near Rotherham, to seek help after she ran into trouble.

And Wednesday was later taken to a vet so she could be sedated – before crews used cutting tools to remove the black piece of railing from around her neck.

Posting on Facebook, her delighted owner said the pup had pulled through her ordeal – and shared her gratitude to those who had helped her.

She wrote: “Thank you so much for helping her. Really appreciate what you guys did that night… She’s brilliant.”

Others took to social media to praise the fire service for coming to the dog’s aid in her hour of need.

One wrote: “Well done to all involved (yes even Wednesday for not biting the hands that rescued it).”

Another joked: “This is something my furry toddler would do. Glad all is well, I swear to god they are worse than kids for mischief.”
