Fire possibly started by overheated pump causes $100k in damage to Walla Walla irrigation business

WALLA WALLA, Wash.-A fire at an irrigation business on the night of March 17 caused an estimated $100,000 in damage.

The Walla Walla Fire Department responded to Nelson Irrigation at 848 Airport Road around 8:51 p.m. after employees at the business reported that a piece of machinery was on fire.

Employees reportedly tried to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher, but contacted the fire department when the fire continued to grow in size, according to a WWFD press release on the fire.

Walla Walla County Fire District 4 and the College Place Fire Department also responded to the fire under a mutual aid agreement.

On scene firefighters saw heavy smoke and confirmed that the building was empty and that the fire was limited to one piece of machinery and the fire was put out by 9:06 p.m.

According to the WWFD, no injuries were reported in the fire that is believed to have been started by an overheated hydraulic pump.
