FDA issues warning about lead in more cinnamon products

WASHINGTON, D.C.-The Food and Drug Administration issued a safety warning on Wednesday, March. 6 after more cinnamon products contaminated with lead were identified.

According to the FDA, people should not eat, sell or serve the ground cinnamon and should throw it away.

The FDA’s safety warning covers the following cinnamon products: La Fiesta, from La Superior SuperMercados; Marcum, from Save A Lot; MK, from SF Supermarket; Swad, from Patel Brothers; Supreme Tradition, from Dollar Tree & Family Dollar; and Eli Chilar, from La Joya Morelense.

No illnesses or adverse health effects have been reported from consuming the cinnamon, according to NBC News reporting on the safety warning.

The FDA’s latest safety warning comes after the recall of lead-contaminated applesauce pouches that resulted in 468 cases of suspected lead poisoning across 44 states, according to NBC.

While lead can be harmful if ingested by anyone, it can have serious health effects on children.

According to the FDA, high levels of lead in children to serious health issues, such as learning and behavior problems and lower IQs.
