RICHLAND, Wash. – First responders across Benton County are inviting the community to its inaugural “Coffee and Ice Cream with a First Responder” event, according to a press release from the Richland Police Department.

RPD will be joined by the West Richland Police Department, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, the Richland Fire Department, Benton County Fire District 1 and Benton County Fire District 4 at the Richland Country Mercantile on Thu., Feb 22.

The event aims to create stronger connections between the community and first responders. Attendees can enjoy discounted coffee and ice cream and speak with local police officers, firefighters and emergency personnel.

“This event embodies our commitment to building bridges between our dedicated first responders and the residents they serve,” said Interim Richland Chief of Police Dave Neher. “By combining the warmth of coffee, the sweetness of ice cream, and the genuine conversations that arise, we hope to create a space where community members and first responders can connect on a personal level.”

The event goes from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Richland Country Mercantile at 5015 Ava Way.

RPD says the event is meant allow attendees to ask questions, voice their concerns, dismantle barriers between them and first responders and develop an understanding of first responders.

“As first responders, our mission extends beyond emergency calls—we are an integral part of the communities we serve,” said Richland Fire Department Chief Thomas Huntington. “‘Coffee and Ice Cream with a First Responder’ exemplifies our dedication to fostering meaningful connections with residents.”
