WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Two men were arrested Thursday night after a SWAT standoff and a drunk driving incident according to a press release from the Walla Walla Police Department.

WWPD says the career criminal apprehension team (CCAT) was tracking a man wanted for unlawful possession of a firearm on the 1600 block of Evergreen Street. After confirming the 38-year-old felon was in an apartment, CCAT contacted the Walla Walla Regional SWAT Team for assistance at 7:40 p.m.

Once the SWAT team arrived, a crisis negotiator contacted the man and talked him into surrendering. He was taken into custody without force and no injuries were sustained according to WWPD.

While the SWAT situation was being dealt with, a WWPD officer was called to a possible DUI with reports of a vehicle hitting a power pole several blocks away in the area of K Street and Wilson Street.

The vehicle was found later which reportedly hit a planter and drove through a yard. As the 71-year-old driver was being contacted by police, he allegedly rammed into the police car three times.

WWPD says the officer used a taser to stop the driver and took him into custody. He was booked into jail on suspicion of DUI, malicious mischief, hit and run, obstructing a law enforcement officer and driving while license is suspended.

The man also had three warrants for his arrest including DUI, reckless driving and driving while license is suspended according to WWPD.
