Daylight Saving reminders: Change your clocks, check smoke alarm batteries on March. 10

0

OLYMPIA, Wash.-Daylight Saving Time starts on Sunday, March. 10 and the Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office is reminding everyone that changing the clocks is also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms.

According to the SFMO and the National Fire Protection Association, the twice-yearly time change is a good reminder and perfect opportunity to check and/or replace the batteries in your home’s smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Smoke alarm safety tips from the Washington state Fire Marshal’s Office:

Install smoke alarms in every bedroom of your home, on every level of your home and outside every sleeping area. After installation, test smoke alarms once a month.Install smoke alarms high on a wall or, ideally on the ceiling.Keep smoke alarms out of the kitchen to avoid false alarms and at least 10 feet from the stove.Replace all smoke alarms when they reach 10 years old.Close the door of your room or sleeping area every night as a closed door may slow the spread of a fire.

More information on smoke alarm safety is available through the Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office at 360-596-3929.
