Cuts, bruises for Seattle-area couple after power lines snap

SEATTLE (AP) — A Seattle-area couple is recovering with just cuts and bruises after two dozen wooden power lines collapsed on a street they were driving through.

Tom and Linda Cook were rescued Friday evening from their Ford Edge SUV, which was struck in the middle by a wooden pole and surrounded by live power lines.

The couple, who are aviation fans, say they were driving to scope out planes at nearby Boeing Field when their car suddenly stopped.

The crash was so sudden that they say they didn’t realize what had happened and called out to each because their view of the car was blocked by the pole that separated them.

Seattle City Light said it is investigating what happened and said the poles were fully inspected just three years ago.
