Officers were forced to borrow kayaks from locals – after a drunk driver crashed into a flood.
Police in Sussex were called after motorist James Doyle misjudged the road and was stuck in water.
Cops then had to wade in to reach him to conduct a breathelizer test – which he failed.
Members of the public then offered Sussex Police officers kayaks so they could complete checks on the car.
The driver provided a sample of 120 microgrammes (uhg) of alcohol per 100 milliliters (ml) of breath.
The legal limit is 35 uhg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
Doyle, 57, of Bognor, admitted driving drunk after he was found to be more than three times the legal alcohol limit.
Doyle appeared before Worthing Magistrates Court and admitted driving while over the legal alcohol limit.
He was sentenced to eight weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months when he appeared on February 5.
He was also disqualified from driving for 29 months and ordered to pay a total of £239.
