KENNEWICK, Wash. – A community meeting regarding the Benton County Sheriff’s Office’s use of facial recognition technology has been scheduled for Thu., Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Benton County Administration Building.

This is the fourth community meeting held by BCSO on facial recognition software Clearview AI, which compares an image of a suspect’s face to over 40 billion publicly available images.

BCSO says Clearview AI is being used by several law enforcement agencies across the country to help investigators identify suspects, noting that the software requires a case number to use it and only searches through public images.

The meeting is open for the community to attend and provide input.
