Clothing store rue21 files for bankruptcy, will close all stores, including Yakima and Kennewick locations

WILMINGTON, Del.-The apparel company rue21, with stores in both Union Gap and Kennewick, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Thursday, May 2 and will now seek to shut down all 540 of its stores.

Based in Warrendale, Pennsylvania, rue21 filed for bankruptcy in the District of Delaware for the third time following filings in 2003 and 2017.

According to its bankruptcy filing, rue21 plans to close its stores and sell its intellectual property.

The website for the Union Gap rue21 says that it is already “permanently closed,” while the Kennewick location is still listed as being open.
