ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The City of Ellensburg issued a proclamation on Wednesday which proclaims March 31, 2024 as Transgender Day of Visibility.

The proclamation goes into the history of transgender individuals in the United States, with examples including colonial governor of New York, Lord Cornbury, Army surgeon Mary Walker and late 1800s trans cowboy Jo Monohan.

The International Transgender Day of Visibility was created in 2009 and set to be on March 31 each year. It seeks to recognize and center the voices and contributions of transgender individuals.

The proclamation, proclaimed by the City Council of Ellensburg, was signed by Mayor Rich Elliott on March 18.
