PASCO, Wash.- The Chiawana High School Cheerleading Team brought home first place as a 3A/4A large traditional non-tumbling team.
Myriah Barajas and Andrea Luna are seniors on the squad and said it was an honor representing Pasco and all of Tri-Cities in the state championship. “State is a great experience and a good team bonding moment for us,” said Barajas. “This is our second time winning ever and it’s a really good feeling.”
Chiawana won state in 2023 and the upperclassmen were excited to bring back some more hardware again this year.
Luna explained what the ‘Large Traditional Non-Tumbling’ division entails.
“Large means we have anywhere between 20 and 32 cheerleaders on the floor and non-tumbling means we just don’t flip.”
Barajas said it was their clean moves and in-sync routine that made them stand out to coaches. “You can really see the emotion pouring out of our routine and our cheer,” said Barajas. “That really sets us apart because we didn’t just go through the motions, we really enjoyed our time on the mat.”
