Central Washington University holding annual climate summit

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The state’s largest environmental and climate coalition is hosting its annual summit on at Central Washington University on the weekend of November 3 to November 5.

The summit, titled “Soulful Solidarity” and hosted by Seattle-based nonprofit Front and Centered, invites CWU students, faculty and staff to meet local advocates for environmental justice and the climate crisis.

The three-day gathering is made to create connections between diverse organizations and communities while creating discussions and collaboration in finding ways to make the world more sustainable.

The keynote speaker of the summit is CWU alumna and Yakama Nation tribal member Elaine Harvey (Wanux’ni) who is currently the department manager of the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission.

Harvey’s address will be delivered on Friday, November 3 at 7 p.m. in the SURC Theatre. The event is open to the public.

CWU Sustainability Officer Jeff Bousson and AmeriCorps Sustainability Education Program Specialist and CWU staff member Lily De Young also plan to lead a workshop on Saturday, November 4 at 2:30 p.m. on “Centering Equity Within Central Washington University’s Draft Climate Action Plan.”

Staff from Front and Centered and community leaders will also be holding workshops.
