ZILLAH, Wash. – According to a press release from the City of Zillah, the boil water advisory that was initially put in place on October 25 has been lifted as of November 4.

Test samples taken across Zillah found that E. coli is no longer in the water system. More than 1.8 million gallons of water were flushed through the city’s system.

“We appreciate the tremendous patience and understanding from all the residents and businesses,” said City Administrator Michael Grayum. “We took immediate action, coordinated with public health officials, and successfully restored clean water to our entire system.”

The City of Zillah initially set November 1 as the target date for lifting the advisory but ended up lifting it three days later.

No illnesses related to Zillah’s drinking water were reported and the cause of the contamination has not been found.

Residents of Zillah who have fixtures, ice machines or other water-related equipment that were turned off during the advisory are encouraged to flush them out and clean them before use.

The City of Zillah had support from the cities of Sunnyside, Toppenish, Moxee and Selah through staffing, diffusers and test kits.

“It was truly a team effort,” said Public Works Director John Simmons.
