WEST RICHLAND, Wash – Benton Rural Electric Association (REA) announced on April 15 the sale of its internet service, PowerNET, to Advanced High Speed Internet, a Yakima-based provider specializing in rural internet services.

The decision to sell PowerNET was approved by Benton REA’s Board of Trustees last year, the West Richland electric utility company said in a press release.

Benton REA, an internet service provider through PowerNET since 1997, said the Board unanimously voted to move forward with the sale agreement, January 29.

Advanced High Speed Internet began providing customer support and field services for PowerNET customers starting January 1.

“The sale of PowerNET to Advanced High Speed Internet will give customers the service they deserve from a company that specializes in rural internet services,” Benton REA CEO Ryan Redmond said in the release.

Austin Detemple, operations manager at Advanced High Speed Internet, said the move will enhance and speed up internet services for its customers. “We look forward to continuing to provide quality services moving into the future.” Detemple stated.
