Bear sighting in Pendleton prompts bear trap deployment

PENDLETON, Ore.- The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation have deployed a bear trap after a black bear sighting in Pendleton.

A black bear was spotted in the Mission Community. A non-lethal bear trap has been deployed near the Mission Longhouse.

You are asked to avoid the area until the bear is trapped and relocated.

Do not play on or around the bear trap.

If you see a black bear make loud noises to temporarily scare it off. Never approach a bear.

The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation is asking the mission community to secure all trash and recycling. Bears can become aggressive when looking for food.
