Basement of Richland duplex catches fire early Sunday morning

RICHLAND, Wash. – The Richland Fire Department responded to a fire in a duplex’s basement early Sunday morning according to Battalion Chief Michael VanBeek.

VanBeek says RFD was called at around 4:11 a.m. about smoke coming from someone’s basement in the 1300 block of Stevens Drive.

The fire was contained to a single room and did not cause any injuries or structural damage, though contents of the room were damaged.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

RFD was supported in fighting the fire by a medic from Benton County Fire District 4, City of Richland Electrical and Cascade Natural Gas.
