BENTON COUNTY, Wash. – The Benton County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of two people in connection with a graduation party shooting from June 2023.

BCSO says deputies responded to a shooting on June 10 on the 2500 block of North Willard Avenue where Ruben Marin, 22, shot into a detached garage from outside, injuring five people.

Following the shooting, Marin and three others reportedly tried to flee which started a separate shooting that killed one in a vehicle.

Following investigation, Marin was identified as the person responsible for the shooting while Vanessa Martinez, 21, was the driver who assisted Marin’s escape.

On October 18, the Yakima Police Department arrested Marin after a homicide in Yakima, which was followed by the BCSO arresting Marin for five counts of Assault in the First Degree the next day.

On October 31, Martinez was found in Sunnyside and arrested for Rendering Criminal Assistance in the First Degree for both assisting Marin in his escape and creating a fake story about the two’s involvement.

The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact BCSO at 509-735-6555.
