KENNEWICK, Wash. – Spring is here, which means it’s a great time to get to your spring cleaning.

According to Dignity Health, spring cleaning is a way to reduce stress by eliminating clutter.

The idea of cleaning might not be fun for most people and may even be overwhelming. Why not ask the experts for advice on where to begin?

Alex Bermudez, a Manager at Merry Maids, said anytime from around March to May is an excellent time to eliminate the extra clutter. The weather is warmer. He says this is a way to decompress after the wintertime. He said a good place to start is a room in which you spend the most time.

“If you’re going to be doing it for yourself, start in your main living area,” said Bermudez. Start small. Tackle those small goals, and then you can work out where else needs serviced.”

He said another tip is to do your best to stay organized. You can make it easy on yourself. He said he takes preventative steps to ensure his house doesn’t get as dirty, such as putting mats down by his door to keep the dirt out after some extra cleaning and organizing.

Inflation is hitting everything. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, household cleaning supplies rose more than five percent in 20-23.

According to Bermudez, there are a few hacks that can save money and keep your house clean.

“White vinegar,” he said. “That will help eliminate an odor and sanitize your surfaces just as well as an all-purpose cleaner. Another thing you could do is just use a microfiber cloth when dusting. Instead of using just a normal feather duster that kicks up the dust and lets it scatter.”

He recommends the microfiber cloth because it will better gather dust rather than spread it around surfaces.

Some other alternatives you could use are diluted bleach and distilled vinegar.
