RICHLAND, Wash. – A 2.7 magnitude earthquake was felt in Richland Friday evening, according to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN).

PNSN says the earthquake occurred at 9:18 p.m. with a depth of nearly five miles.

According to PNSN, this is the first notable earthquake to happen within the Tri-Cities since a 3.1 magnitude earthquake shook up Pasco on June 15, 1975.

The last earthquake to hit the surrounding area happened on Oct. 14, 2011 when a 3.2 magnitude earthquake shook in the Columbia River just north of Ruby.
