15-year-old victim of shooting in Yakima identified

YAKIMA, Wash.- UPDATE. March. 4.-The 15-year-old victim of a shooting at McGuinness Park on Friday, March. 1 has been identified.

According to Yakima County Coroner Jim Curtice, Unikque Ramirez died in the shooting.

Ramirez died from a gunshot wound and the manner of death was a homicide, according to Curtice.

Yakima Police continue to investigate the shooting. So far no suspects have been taken into custody in connection to the death.

CONTINUING COVERAGE:A 15-year-old girl was found dead after a possible gang-related shooting at McGuinness Park Friday night, according to the Yakima Police Department.

Police said officers responded to shots fired at 9:20 p.m. where they found the girl dead due to an apparent gunshot. The shooting was reported by a resident in the area.

Lt. Chad Janis said the shooting is gang related. Janis said they don’t have any suspects, but said YPD has been out to that area before due to shootings.

“Sometime last year we were out in that general area for shootings,” Lt. Janis said. “It’s a park, it’s not well lit at night. It certainly lends itself to a place where it’s a bit concealed off for the main thoroughfares. Like any place like that. It could be a place where something like this happens.”

According to Janis gang activity is decreasing. NonStop Local asked Lt. Janis for data and was told he would get that informations in the coming days.

YPD said the Major Crimes unit is leading the investigation. They are looking for any information from the public to identify the suspect or suspects involved in the shooting.
