Zillah police incident under investigation after man’s death

ZILLAH, Wash. – A man died on Tuesday after an incident involving a neighbor in Zillah and the Yakima Valley Special Investigations Unit is now investigating.

Zillah Police were called to a residence in the 200 block of 1st Ave. around 12:10 a.m. after reports of a man inside a neighbor’s home, according to a YVSIU news release. Officers from Zillah and Granger responded. The man refused to leave the residence, prompting officers to negotiate with him for over an hour.

Eventually, officers entered the home, leading to a confrontation and a use of force that did not involve firearms, according to the release.

The man received immediate medical assistance and was transported to a local hospital, then to a trauma hospital for advanced care, according to the release. He later died, and an autopsy is pending to determine the cause and manner of death.

Authorities are working to locate the man’s next of kin, and YVsIU is still investigating the incident, according to the release.
