YAKIMA, Wash. – Excitement is building in Yakima as the city prepares to unveil its largest community Christmas tree yet at Millennium Plaza. The Downtown Association of Yakima, in partnership with the city’s public works, Russell Crane, Carrell Crane and Heavy Hauling, is ensuring this holiday tradition is bigger than ever.

This year’s tree, nominated by Saul Parraga, is a massive 45 feet tall. Curt Wilson, Executive Director of Yakima’s Downtown Association, shared his enthusiasm.

“I think people are going to be really happy and excited about this tree, and we’re going to get this thing lit up, and it’s going to look really good in this place,” he said.

The impressive tree weighs over 7,000 pounds and required significant community effort to set up. Wilson emphasized the importance of community collaboration.

“The community comes together to make it happen and our partners come together,” he said.

The Millennium Plaza Foundation contributed funding to expand the hole for the tree, allowing for a larger display. Wilson expressed his joy in seeing the community’s reaction.

“One of the best parts of me is to see the community down here appreciate the tree. The seventh, we’ll have the lighted parade, and this will all be lit up and then we’ll light the big tree at the same time and we’ll have Christmas carols, music and fun and a good time will be had by all,” he stated.

The tree lighting event is set for December 7, 2025, during the light parade. However, the Downtown Association will begin lighting the surrounding trees on December 2. Wilson highlighted the spirit of the season.

“It’s just people coming together trying to do good things and making it happen. And so the holidays are always a special time,” he said.

Volunteers are still welcome to join in the festivities and help make this holiday season memorable for the Yakima community. Wilson said you can visit their website if you’re interested in helping.
