
YAKIMA, Wash. – Yakima County is set to celebrate the 41st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration with the theme “Reinvesting in Our Community.”
The event will feature activities designed to bring the community together in unity.
The highlight of the celebration will be a Peace Walk and Celebration on January 19. The Peace Walk will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the corner of 5th Avenue and MLK Boulevard in Yakima, followed by a celebration at the Yakima Convention Center.
Tyler Monk, founder of The Underdog Mentality, will be the keynote speaker. He is known for his motivational speaking and storytelling aimed at empowering individuals.
The day will end with a community Soup Kitchen at 2:30 p.m. at the Henry Beauchamp Community Center in Yakima.
In addition to the main event, the community is also participating in the 22nd Annual Lee Paggett Food Drive from January 5 to 15. Non-perishable items can be dropped off at any Yakima School District school.
For movie enthusiasts, the YVC Diversity Film Series will feature “Selma” at Yakima Valley College in Grandview on January 12 at 11:00 a.m. and in Yakima on January 14 at 12:00 p.m.
A panel discussion titled “Reinvesting in Our Communities” will be facilitated by Dr. Laquita Parks on January 15 at 6:00 p.m.
