YAKIMA, Wash. – The suspect involved in a deadly shooting over the weekend has been caught by police. Authorities have identified the suspect as 21-year-old Isreal Barriga Vargas of Yakima. He was arrested a few hours ago around 2:15 p.m.

Barriga Vargas was found inside a home on South 90th Avenue in Yakima. The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, along with Yakima Police and other agencies, surrounded the home and contacted him through a police announcement. He surrendered without any problems and was taken to the Yakima County Jail, where he was booked on second-degree murder.

The Yakima County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 18-year-old Salvador Granillo, a senior at Garfield High School in Seattle. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were informed of a gunshot victim at MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday. Officials said Granillo died of his injuries, with the cause of death being a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The sheriff’s office determined the shooting happened at a party on the 1500 block of South Keys Road. They stated that the suspect shot Granillo after an altercation at the party and then ran away.

Garfield High School held a candlelight vigil for Granillo earlier today. The Razas Unidas Club will be collecting flowers tomorrow in his honor.
