YAKIMA, Wash. – Following the resignation of Yakima Air Terminal director Rob Hodgman, the city of Yakima will be searching for a new candidate to fill the position, according to City Manager Vicki Baker.

City officials assured the public that airport operations will proceed as usual during the search for Hodgman’s replacement.

“We’re going to be looking for a director who is the right fit for our airport and our community,” Baker said. “The airport plays a big role in the economic health of the Yakima Valley and we are looking for someone who can strengthen relationships with tenants at the airport, the airport staff, funding partners, etc., as well as managing day-to-day operations and developing a vision for the future of the airport.”

The transition comes as the airport updates its electrical, heating and cooling systems, replaces the terminal roof and improves foot traffic accommodations.

Additionally, construction of a new baggage claim carousel and restrooms will begin soon, with runway upgrades and a parking expansion also on the horizon.

“The modernization efforts at the airport are important but adding commercial flights to more destinations will be an increased focus,” Baker said. “The next director will need to have a broad skill set to ensure the success of the airport.”

The search for a new director will begin in the coming days. Hodgman, who was hired in March 2023, will officially resign on October 31.
