YAKIMA, Wash. – Construction on Yakima’s wastewater system will shift to the south central area due to unexpected high groundwater levels in the northeast, the city said in a release.
Starting Monday, July 7, South 10th Avenue will close to “local access only” from Mead Avenue to Spokane Street.
The work in the south central area is expected to continue into August. Construction will return to the northeast area this fall, with the entire project slated for completion in February 2026.
Roads will remain open to local traffic, and driveway access will be maintained.
Traffic control devices will guide vehicles around construction zones. Temporary road closures may occur, but detours will provide local access.
Residents can expect temporary water outages once the new system is installed. A minimum of 24-hour advance notice will be given for scheduled outages.
