YAKIMA, Wash. – On Tuesday, November 25, Yakima Police Department (YPD) officers were dispatched to a residence on Powerhouse Road following a report of a weapons offense.
According to court documents, the report was received around 9:52 p.m., and described a son pointing a handgun at his father.
YPD officers arrived and observed a man step out of the residence’s front door, before going back inside and fleeing out of the back door. Police were not able to establish a perimeter in the area before the suspect fled.
Speaking with other residents, YPD officers learned that the father had been fighting with his son, who was reportedly angry for an unknown reason. The son brandished a handgun and pointed it at the floor, then he put it away and left the residence.
Court documents stated that around 12:55 a.m. on Wednesday, a Flock camera captured the 19-year-old son’s car in the area of Fair Avenue and Fair Avenue Loop. YPD officers located the suspect vehicle and began to pursue it.
After a car chase ensued, the suspect vehicle crashed, and a brief pursuit on foot followed. Court documents report that a K9 unit and taser were deployed in the apprehension of the 19-year-old suspect.
YPD officers found a handgun on the suspect that matched the description of the firearm that the family had given to police earlier that night.
According to court documents, the suspect was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation, and afterwards, he was arrested for second-degree assault, two counts of felony harassment, eluding police, second-degree unlawful firearm possession, resisting arrest and obstructing a law enforcement officer.
