YAKIMA, Wash. – The Yakima Mile is set to return for its sixth year this Saturday, June 7.

The event promises an evening full of races, music, and community activities.

It might be heating up on Sunday, but Saturday evening is slated to be a nice, cool evening full of fierce competition, casual runners, music, giveaways, and much more.

Julia Johnson, the event director, shared that the finish line will feature a large stage with a video screen and music playing throughout the day.

Local downtown Yakima businesses will offer food, and there will be a variety of giveaways from community partners.

Johnson highlighted the event’s social aspect, stating, “It’s good fun to come out, run, walk, and then hang out afterwards.”

Road closures are planned for the event.

The area from 3rd Street to 1st will close at 2:00 p.m., as well as the start line near 11th Avenue.

Yakima Avenue will remain open until the race begins at 7:00 p.m., with additional closures and flaggers to manage traffic.

This year’s Yakima Mile will support YWCA Yakima and their programs for victims of domestic violence.

Johnson encouraged community participation, saying, “Come out, come support the YWCA and have some fun.”

Further details, including registration and volunteer opportunities, are available on their website.
