YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. – Yakima County Sheriff Bob Udell announced his retirement on Wednesday after nearly 7 years at the department’s helm.

In his announcement, Udell endorsed Jake Church, who has declared his candidacy for the position.

“Jake has the experience, integrity, and commitment that this community needs to keep moving forward,” Udell said. “I have worked alongside him and can say with confidence that he is the right person to continue the work we’ve started. I’m proud to endorse him and look forward to seeing him lead.”

Church, a lieutenant with YCSO, thanked Udell for the endorsement.

“I am honored to have Sheriff Udell’s support,” Church said. “He has set a strong example of service, and I am committed to carrying on that tradition. Together, we will continue to keep our neighborhoods safe and support the values that make our community strong.”

Udell will continue to serve out the remainder of his term as sheriff through 2026.
