YAKIMA, Wash. – The Yakima County Republican Central Committee is searching for qualified candidates to fill the County Coroner position, recently vacated by Jim Curtice.
According to Yakima County Republicans (YCR), the selection of three nominees will occur at the Yakima County GOP Endorsement Convention and Coroner Nominations Meeting on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Yakima Christian Center.
The Yakima County Board of Commissioners will select one of the nominees to serve until the next general election, YCR said in a release.
Eligible candidates must be registered voters residing in Yakima County. Preferred experience includes forensic science, medicine, criminal investigations, criminal justice, or related fields.
Interested individuals can submit a letter of interest, including a resume and statement of qualifications, to Yakima GOP Chairman Matt Brown at mattbrown.chair@gmail.com. Additionally, Precinct Committee Officers (PCOs) can nominate candidates during the convention.
The job opening comes on the heels of Yakima County commissioners accepting Curtice’s resignation after months of negotiations amid charges of misconduct, making false statements to a public servant, and tampering with evidence.
Curtice is accused of taking illegal drugs from deceased bodies and using them at work.
