YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. – Yakima County commissioners have accepted the resignation of Coroner Jim Curtice after months of negotiations.
The commissioners worked closely with their prosecuting attorney and Curtice’s legal representative to draft the agreement. The board voted unanimously to accept Curtice’s resignation under the terms outlined in the document on April 15.
The resignation becomes official upon the board’s approval, but Curtice has a seven-day period to rescind his resignation. This “cooling off period” allows him to legally withdraw his resignation within that time frame.
Curtice is still facing charges of official misconduct, tampering with physical evidence and making a false or misleading statement to a public official in Yakima County District Court. The resignation is separate from his criminal case.
Amanda McKinney, Yakima County Commissioner for District 1, has chosen not to comment on the agreement until the seven days have passed.
