YAKIMA, Wash. – The Yakima County Board of Commissioners has appointed Julia Davis as the new District Court judge.

Davis, who has been an attorney with the Yakima County Prosecutor’s Office, will now serve the county in her new judicial role.

Kyle Curtis, Yakima County Commissioner, expressed confidence in Davis’s appointment. “We are confident that Julia Davis will serve the citizens of Yakima County with integrity, professionalism, and a deep respect for the rule of law,” Curtis said.

Davis will handle cases involving misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors and civil disputes in Yakima County.

The appointment process began after the Board was informed on Oct. 30, 2023, of Judge Donald Engel’s resignation, effective March 7, 2025. Five applicants applied, and two were interviewed before Davis was selected during a public meeting on March 10.
