YAKIMA, Wash. – The Yakima Area Arboretum is hosting a summer day camp that combines fun and education for kids while providing a convenient option for working parents.
Garrett Brenden, the Education Director for the arboretum, explained that the camp offers a mix of activities designed to engage children in learning about nature.
“We really try to balance that fun and learning. It makes it really easy for the kids to learn when they’re having fun,” he said.
Campers spend their days from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. exploring the arboretum’s 46 acres.
“We’re outside all day,” Brenden said.
“Campers are out exploring the different collections, learning about trees and nature.”
Activities include visits to a large pond where children can catch and learn about frogs and turtles, as well as games on the fields.
Fridays are especially exciting with water days featuring a slip and slide and splash trivia, giving kids the opportunity to dump water on their counselors.
