Matlock Season 2 is going on a long break soon. The CBS drama starring Kathy Bates, Skye P. Marshall, and Jason Ritter returned on December 4 after a brief hiatus, but its midseason finale is coming up fast. After that, Matlock won’t be back until February 2026.

The show went on a pre-planned Thanksgiving hiatus starting on November 14 and returned on December 4. This break aligned with production’s completion of filming the first seven episodes of the season. It went on a brief filming break during that time.
What happens in Matlock Season 2?
The drama between Matty and Olympia has been so intense (and confusing) in Season 2, fans were concerned that their rivalry would continue all season long. But Season 2 Episode 6, “Harm Reduction,” showed them slowly reconciling as they worked together on a tricky case with nuns. In Episode 7, which aired on December 4, they were a team again.
They worked with Eva (Justina Machado) to try to stage a coup against Senior (Beau Bridges) at Jacobson Moore, but he thwarted the board vote that would have taken him out. Now, they’re working with Julian (Ritter) to get an NDA that could help their Wellbrexa case. The episode also introduced Olympia’s mother, Celeste, played by Fresh Prince alum Vernee Watson.
Mario Lopez’s son, Nico, guest stars in the midseason finale, along with The Young and the Restless alum Sean Carrigan.
