A workplace investigations specialist with the Ogletree Deakins law firm has cleared West Richland Police Chief Thomas Grego of misconduct following an independent investigation, according to a release by the City Of West Richland.
The investigation, commissioned by Mayor Brent Garry, concluded that the allegations of retaliatory and/or bullying behavior toward officers were completely unsubstantiated, the release said.
“We take any claims brought to our attention seriously and are committed to ensuring transparency and accountability,” said Mayor Gerry. “The findings affirm our commitment to operating with integrity and in alignment with our values.”
In February 2024, the West Richland Police Officers’ Association submitted a vote of no confidence in Chief Grego, but did not speak of specifics on the case.
Two months later, Mayor Gerry stated in a press release that he had taken “decisive action to address concerns within the department and foster a culture of transparency and communication.”
Following the conclusion of the investigation by Ogletree Deakins, Chief Grego issued the following statement:
“I am extremely grateful for the thorough and impartial investigation that has decisively cleared these unfounded allegations. I would also like to thank the Mayor for his patience and resolve in resisting political pressure when the union chose to publicize these accusations against me, ultimately ensuring that I received due process. I remain firmly confident in the dedication and professionalism of my team. As a leader, I have always prioritized open communication and addressing any concerns from the union with transparency and integrity. Our primary mission must always be focused on serving and protecting our community. Together, I am confident that we will continue to uphold the highest standards of public safety and trust.”
Chief Grego has announced that he plans to retire later this year.
