UPDATE: Dec. 14 at 3:10 p.m.

The City of West Richland announced flood waters in the area are receding, with levels expected to drop below flood stage by Monday afternoon.

However, an incoming Atmospheric River is forecast to bring heavy rain to the Washington Cascades from Monday into Tuesday, with mountain snow expected to develop late Tuesday and continue through the week.

This weather event is likely to cause the Yakima River to reach flood stage again by early Thursday morning.

Residents are advised to be cautious as floodwaters can contain sewage, chemicals, bacteria and debris, posing significant health risks.

It is crucial to file insurance claims early by documenting damages with photos or videos and keeping all related receipts.

When handling debris, wear protective gear such as long pants, sturdy shoes, goggles, gloves and masks. Be especially careful around power lines, and call professionals to handle any visible cables.

If you rely on a private well for water, ensure it is safe to drink before use.

Clean and disinfect all items that were wet. Use fans, air conditioners and dehumidifiers to dry out your home.
