WASHINGTON – 5th District Representative Dan Newhouse has introduced a resolution to censure a fellow member of Congress from Texas.

On the House floor, Rep. Newhouse expressed his disapproval of the actions that took place by Rep. Al Green during President Trump’s Joint Address, stating that the behavior showed a “sheer disregard for decorum.”

“Decorum and order are the institutional grounds for the way we do business in the United States Congress, and the sheer disregard for that standard during President Trump’s address by the gentleman from Texas is unacceptable. A Member’s refusal to adhere to the Speaker’s direction to cease such behavior, regardless of their party, has and will continue to be reprimanded in the people’s House.” Representative Newhouse said.

According to the resolution, Green’s interruptions during the President’s address led to a breach of conduct, disrupting the proceedings.

Despite multiple disruptions, Green remained in the chamber until the Sergeant at Arms removed him.
