KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. – The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man with several outstanding warrants Sunday night, who then attempted to ignite a deputy and fled.
The man was sitting in the back of his car near milepost 6 on State Route 821 in the Yakima River canyon. When a deputy attempted to speak with him through the passenger-side sliding door, the man sprayed him with a bottle of lighter fluid.
The deputy used his taser, causing the man to fall into the driver’s seat. The man then threw a piece of flaming metal at police.
The man began driving north towards Ellensburg, and deputies successfully stopped him using tire spikes and the PIT maneuver.
Police arrested him on his outstanding warrants and recommended additional charges.
