Valentine’s Day is swiftly approaching, and who better to walk WUNSL through wine, cheese and dessert pairings than Frichette Winery’s Shae Frichette.
In 2013, Frichette and her husband decided they wanted to move closer to family. Only problem–Shae’s from South Carolina, and her partner–Washington State. The two flipped a coin, and Washington won, giving Benton City the prize of a great wine mind and liaison for the region.
Frichette states that, when thinking about wine pairings, it’s best to experiment, mix and match. Although, there are some good rules to guide you: drier red wines with more tannins, or buttery, heavy white wines work better with charcuterie boards stacked with meat; meanwhile, lighter, fruit forward varietals like Syrah or grenache go great with similarly fruit-forward jams and spreads.
Frichette isn’t the only winery in the area to host a smattering of Valentine’s Day special offers over the weekend: Terra Blanca will host their Onyx Dinner on Sunday, featuring many wineries from around the area, and Frichette told WUNSL that Kiona has some of the best cheese boards in the region. She states that one can’t really go wrong with Red Mountain.
A little farther east in the Tri-Cities, Layered Cake Artistry in downtown Kennewick will also host their Valentine’s Day Market on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
