KENNEWICK, Wash. – Cat lovers in Kennewick have a special opportunity to find their new feline friend this Sunday.
Tumbleweed Cat Rescue is holding an adoption event at Paw’s Pet Emporium from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Heather Peak, an experienced foster with Tumbleweed Cat Rescue, shared her insights during an interview.
She has fostered 37 cats and explained why she continues to support the cause. “I started about three years ago, and originally it was just because we wanted to get a cat, add him to our family, and we thought fostering would be a good way to just see how the cat does,” she said.
“Our fourth was a fail. We kept him and just decided that we liked it so much, we kept doing it.”
Peak emphasized the importance of fostering, noting that while dogs at shelters get to go on walks, cats often remain in small crates at shelters.
“Our first one, he had been there for five months, and so… just to see him go from a small crate to our house, I mean, it was just kind of a cool thing to see, you know, and really giving back to the community and helping these animals,” she added.
Sunday’s event aims to create a relaxed environment for potential adopters to meet the cats.
Peak explained, “Usually the fosters will bring in the cats. I mean, they are in crates, but it is a really relaxed environment, so people can come up. They can see the kitties. You know, we open it up, and, yeah, they get to pet them and ask questions, and we’re the best because we know what they’re like. We spend time with them.”
The event takes place at Paw’s Pet Emporium. Attendees can interact with the cats and speak with fosters who know them well.
