The Trump administration briefly paused more than $5 billion in CDC infrastructure grants over the weekend, impacting public health funding for cities and states.

A notice was sent Saturday, pausing these critical grants. However, the pause was lifted within hours, according to a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services spokesperson.

The spokesperson explained the pause was meant to implement a new review process. “The pause was to implement a new review process to ensure funds are used for their intended purposes and in alignment with agency priorities,” said the spokesperson.

These grants are essential for supporting lab testing, emergency preparedness, patient care and public health jobs.
